Steelmen Smash Eight Past Hapless Millers
Corby Town went goal crazy on Saturday in North Leigh!
Corby Town travelled to North Leigh looking to keep up an unbeaten run in the league that had so far returned 10 points from 4 games, with 3 league wins in a row!
North Leigh had started the season with 2 defeats on the road but went into the game with a 100% home record.
Inside 3 minutes the ball was in the back of the North Leigh net, but the linesmans flag briefly saved face for the hosts.
The floodgates were opened on 6 minutes. Jordon Crawford getting the ball out wide before cutting onto his right foot and curling an unstoppable effort into the far top right hand corner for his first goal of the season. The lucky borrowed boots certainly doing their job.
One then became two for the Steelmen and Crawf on 11 minutes, Jordan Francis doing all the hard work before laying off to Ben Bradshaw who sent over an inviting cross that was turned in at the back post.
Crawford then should have completed his hat-trick, a ball played over from the right dipped at the final second and left Crawford taking aim with his right foot and dragging his effort wide.
Things were all going right for the visitors, but North Leigh woke up and on 25 minutes pulled a goal back. A free kick from the half way line was sent over to the back post, nodded back across goal where George Seacole was waiting at the back post to halve the deficit.
This was the wake up call Corby needed. On 40 minutes, Joel Carta kept up his fine goal scoring start to the season, his effort hitting off a defender, bouncing back off of Joel, hitting another defender before hitting off the Corby man again and ending up in the bottom corner. Bradshaw then wrapped up the first half action with his first goal of the game with the last kick of the half.
Half Time North Leigh 1-4 Corby Town
The 2nd half started and it was Corbys turn to attack a slope that is not too dissimilar to the incline on Rockingham Hill.
The hosts managed to create a couple of half changes through Roger James and George Seacole but the Steekmen back line stood firm, Dan George having a quiet afternoon with a defence marshalled by captain Gary Mulligan letting very little through.
On 68 minutes, Sam Warburton read a through ball from the hosts to intercept and find Ben Bradshaw on the far side of the area, Ben taking a touch before sending a fantastic half volley into the far corner to complete his brace and get the Steelmen started in the second half.
On 77 minutes, Jake Bettles was fouled in the area by Captain Ben Brown, Sandy stepping up to calmly send the keeper the wrong way. 2 minutes later and Ben Brown had the ball in the back of the net, sadly for him it was his own net to compound a miserable two minutes for the hosts skipper.
The final act of the game was one to remember, Connor Kennedy sending a high ball up to Elliot Sandy. Sandy was one on one with the last man, and managed to pull out a touch some people have compared to Dennis Bergkamp against Newcastle back in 2002. Sandy charged down on goal before slotting past the advancing keeper to complete the scoring.
