I am sure everyone involved with Corby Town Football Club was as shocked as I was to learn of the tragic death of former Steelman Danny Pitham. On Monday 6th May 33-year-old Danny was found dead with a stab wound to the heart at an address in Bedworth. It was reported locally that two men had been charged with his murder and two more arrested for "assisting an offender".
In February 2018 Danny had been involved in a road traffic accident and the injuries he received resulted in the amputation of his left arm. His sister Shannen set up a just giving page which raised £8,481 towards the cost of a prosthetic arm.
All this tragedy is a far cry from the success Danny enjoyed on the football field. As a teenager he spent three years with Burnley and following his release from Turf Moor he signed for Hinckley United. Spells with Rugby Town, Coalville Town, Bedworth United and Atherstone Town then followed before he rejoined Bedworth, his local club.
Danny enjoyed a highly successful 2007/08 season with the Greenbacks and his form earned him both the Managers Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year awards.
In November 2008 he moved on to Nuneaton Town and made 25 appearances during the remainder of their 2008/09 promotion-winning campaign. The following season Danny's appearances were limited by an ankle injury which require surgery and he ended 2009/10 back at Bedworth,
In the summer of 2010 Graham Drury signed Danny for Corby Town and after helping the Steelmen beat Peterborough United in pre-season to lift the Maunsell Cup he made his Blue Square Bet North debut in the number two shirt in a 2-1 home win over Harrogate Town on the opening day of the league campaign. He scored in the fourth game - a 3-2 Rockingham Triangle victory over Redditch United - and played throughout our 2010/11 F.A Cup run which ended with a First Round replay defeat away to Luton Town in November. In all Danny made twenty appearances for Corby before leaving the club in January 2011.
The thoughts of everyone at Corby Town Football Club are with Danny's family and friends at this difficult time.
