CORBY TOWN 4 CAMBRIDGE CITY 1

Sandy hit a shot which Head got his hands to but could not prevent entering the net.

For the second game in a row the Steelmen began well, on this occasion taking the lead in the sixth minute. A Jordon Crawford corner from the left was headed down at the far post by Connor Kennedy. Cambridge goalkeeper Jamie Head blocked his effort but Joel Carta was on hand to hook n the rebound.
Corby continued to attack the visiting goal and created several chances to add to their lead. Head just got to a Crawford through ball ahead of Elliot Sandy and another Crawford corner caused consternation in the City defence but on this occasion Kennedy flashed his shot wide. It seemed only a matter of time before a second goal arrived but when Sandy found himself with a clear run at goal he could only hit a tame shot into the arms of Head.
Cambridge did look dangerous on the break and after a couple of warning shots they drew level in the 26th minute. A foul on Josh Oyinson by Delroy Gordon produced a free kick and when the ball was played into the penalty area by Micky Davis centre forward Oyinson took out Dan George before rolling the ball into the net. Corby players and supporters alike expected a free kick to be awarded as the goalkeeper lay on the ground but referee Mr Scott Tallis saw nothing wrong and awarded the goal.
This blow didn't knock Corby out of their stride for long and Sandy shot wide from a Crawford pass before a Sam Warburton free kick fell to Gary Mulligan who shot over the bar.
Shortly before half time the Steelmen were briefly back in front. Sandy pulled the ball back from the goal line to Carta whose shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Sandy and his second pull back was put into the net by Kennedy. Mr Tallis awarded the goal and Corby celebrated but the referee then had second thoughts and went over to consult his assistant, who by this time was surrounded by Cambridge players. Neither official had originally signalled for an infringement but after a brief discussion they decided there was an offside somewhere in the move and the goal was chalked off.
Corby went in at the interval feeling hard done by but to their credit they put the first half incidents behind them and did score a second in the 49th minute. A free kick was headed into the danger area by Mulligan, nodded forward by Jordan Francis and turned in at the far post by Crawford.
Twelve minutes later Francis claimed another assist when he broke down the left and set up substitute Tolani Omotola for his first goal for the club. The scoring was completed in the 77th minute when Sandy hit a shot which Head got his hands to but could not prevent entering the net.
