CORBY TOWN 4 BEDFORD TOWN 1

The Steelmen's centre forward found the net from outside the penalty area for the first time this season.

Bearing in mind the final score, the big surprise of this game was that the destination of the points was in doubt for as long as it was. Corby's first chance of the afternoon came from a Sam Warburton corner which was punched away from underneath the crossbar by Bedford goalkeeper Ashlee Jones.
Jordon Crawford was the next to test the Eagles' keeper but his close range header would have been ruled out anyway by an offside flag. Dan George then launched a long ball forward from inside his own half which only just cleared the crossbar.
In the 10th minute Jordan Francis was unable to take full advantage of a mix-up in the visiting defence but he did enough to earn a corner and Crawford's kick was met by Delroy Gordon who scored his first goal of the season with the sweetest of volleys.
Elliot Sandy was inches away from getting a touch to a left wing centre while at the other end Oluwola Akinsanya struck the outside of the post with a shot, only to discover that the linesman had already flagged him offside. Gordon then made comfortable saves from a Nathan Frater header and Callum Donnelly shot and then produced a more difficult stop with his legs to deny Akinsanya as Bedford finally began to threaten the Corby goal.
The Steelmen came out for the second half looking to put some breathing space between them and the opposition and they achieved it ten minutes after the interval when Connor Kennedy fired in a shot from outside the penalty area which Jones got a hand to but couldn't keep out.
Eight minutes later it was game on again, however, when Ben Ford was given all the time and space he needed to hit a low effort which beat George and nestled in the bottom corner of the net.
Bedford now had their tails up and a shot by Donnelly was blocked before the ball eventually fell to Brett Longden who lifted his effort wastefully over the bar.
It wasn't until ten minutes from the end that Corby finally broke Bedford's resistance. Kennedy dropped one centre onto the top of the net but his next was met by Joel Carta who netted from close range.
Top scorer Sandy had not had too many opportunities during the game but his finally got his goal in the 89th minute. A long clearance was won in the air by Sandy and as the ball dropped the Steelmen's centre forward skipped past the challenge of Jamie Peters and found the net from outside the penalty area for the first time this season
