CORBY TOWN 3 COLESHILL TOWN 0

Kennedy struck a fierce volley which flew into the net.

Following a defeat and a postponement Corby Town got their promotion push back on track on Boxing Day against a Coleshill side who were themselves chasing a play off spot.
The Steelmen were quick off the blocks and were ahead within four minutes. Joel Carta battled hard to win and then retain possession on the left. He played the ball infield to Connor Kennedy and he swung it out to Jordon Crawford on the right. His shot took a wicked deflection off the unfortunate Giovanni Dainty to completely wrongfoot goalkeeper Paul Hathaway.
Things got even better in the sixteenth minute when Corby added a second. A Sam Warburton free kick was only cleared to the edge of the penalty area and Kennedy struck a fierce volley which flew into the net - again via a slight deflection.
An early injury to Danny Tymon forced the visitors to make a change with Stuart Hendrie coming on. The former Steelmen produced some nice touches and also hit a shot which produced Dan George's only save of the opening half.
Corby also made a substitution when Miles Smith limped off but fortunately the Steelmen had a ready replacement on the bench in Jamie Anton.
Early in the second period Kennedy directed a header from a Crawford corner straight at Hathaway and Carta hit a shot narrowly wide. A timely intervention by Guy Clarke then prevented a Crawford centre from reaching the unmarked Carta in front of goal.
Corby finally did extend their lead in the 65th minute when Carta and Jordan Francis combined to set up Kennedy for his second well struck goal of the afternoon.
New signing Tolani Omotola made a brief appearance as a late substitute and although clearly short of match fitness he did enough to suggest that he will be another useful addition to the squad once he is up to speed.
The Steelmen's final chance of the game fell to Francis but his shot was blocked by a combination of goalkeeper Hathaway and full back Craig Deakin.
Coleshill were almost gifted a consolation goal in the final minutes when George sliced an attempted clearance back towards his own goal but then showed admirable pace to get back to clear the ball off the line.
The only low point of a good afternoon for Corby was the sight of Ben Bradshaw leaving the field on a stretcher after falling awkwardly whilst challenging Joel McFarlane for possession in midfield. The Corby substitute was obviously in some pain but fortunately he was able to walk unaided from the medical room to the dressing room a few minutes after the final whistle.
