Corby Town Ladies v Earls Barton Ladies

In what was always going to be a tough game for our steelwomen. Today they took on Earls Barton Ladies away. With 5 first team regulars missing it was the chance for some of our fringe players to stake a claim in the starting line up for next week. And boy did they take up the chance!! Also we welcomed U16 Player “Maddy” to the squad as she takes the step up to Ladies Football.

First half our steelwomen started quickly and were straight away attacking the Earls Barton goal and within 2 minutes took the lead with a 35 yard plus wonder strike from Lowden that the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep out. That goal settled the team and set the tone for the first half with an array of attacks from Corby. Lowden was bossing the middle of the park and setting our attacks away time after time. Taylor with a great shot that hit the post and Beth with a close effort and then on 17 minutes a corner that evaded the keeper from Kyra and hit an Earls Barton player for our steelwomens second. Earls Barton started to try and make a stand but in the first half we stood firm and defended excellently.

Second half our steelwomen started very differently with changes made a couple of injury’s the team was reshuffled which changed our rhythm, we again stood strong. Maddy after a nervous first half started to become more involved and showed the reason on why she was chosen for the step up, our wing play started to take control and with a missed post and then 2 shots from Maddy a great save by the keeper and a shot bouncing down off the crossbar and Corby could have been further ahead. Again as last week our steelwomen started to get a little nervous towards the end of the match and Earls Barton hit the back of the net but the flag was up for offside and then a couple of great saves from Georgia to keep us in it. A change in the midfield to make us a little more robust and the points were secured.

A great battling performance from our steelwomen to again ensure the win and clean sheet.
