Corby Town Ladies prevail at home

Today our steelwomen took on Daventry Lionesses in their first league encounter this season. Daventry Lionesses are still trying to find their feet in the league and came up against a Corby Town team in fine form.

First half Daventry really defended resolutely and our steelwomen really struggled to break down the Daventry defence. Our steelwomen huffed and puffed but couldn’t get that all important goal in the first half and were a little disjointed. In fact a mistake at the back and Daventry could and should have been ahead at the break. However half time and the score was 0-0. What the first half really showed was the importance of having a good pre game warm up. With the time available today the girls were unable to have that all important intense warm up.

After the half time team talk and little reshuffle in the middle the shape was changed to give us more of an attacking threat. Hannah took over the midfield in order to allow our more attacking players to get on the ball and show how we can play. Immediately the girls pressed and had Daventry again pinned in their half but this time the passing was crisper there was a spring in the step of the steelwomen and then the all important goal from Amy. This was soon followed up by a second from Amy. Our steelwomen went for it knowing that goal difference is all important and then a 3rd from Taylor. Taylors press then allowed for Amy’s hatrick and then a second for Taylor before Hannah rounded off what was an excellent 2nd half display. Special mentions to Hannah who really bossed the middle of the park allowing for our creative players to get their game going, for Amy and Taylor who worked superb together up front and to Courtney who was a constant thorn in Daventry’s side when on the right wing.

Daventry today put up a very spirited display and really tried to frustrate our play which worked for them 1st half. But our steelwomen worthy winners in the end.
