Brackley Town Saints v Corby Town Ladies

Today our steelwomen took on Brackley Town Saints. If our steelwomen were to keep on track in their promotion push this was one of their must win games. With Brackley only losing 1 game this season this was always going to be a tough game and Brackley are known for their passing prowess and are top goal scorers in the league. Today the steelwomen were without their usual strike partnership and wingers but gave it their all.

1st half kicked off and Brackley flew out the traps and showed why they are renown for their passing ability and took the lead within 2 minutes. This caught our steelwomen cold and Brackleys second soon followed after 7 minutes. Many teams would have panicked but not our steelwomen, the trio of Hannah, Lowden and Tinto started to get to grips with Brackleys midfield 5. And on 10 minutes a goal back for our steelwomen. Hannah scoring a header from a perfect corner delivery. As the half went on a 3rd for Brackley but our steelwomen kept that belief and from that moment took over the match with an excellent through ball from Mackenzie to Ellie to slot calmly home. Mackenzie has shown some great displays of late and is improving game after game. Then a 3rd for the steelwomen a well worked goal with Maddie running through to score her first for the team and make it 3-3 at the break.

After a team talk the second half and what a half for the steelwomen, Ellie, Maddie and Tinto were a constant threat and with Beth running the right in the 65th minute a great cross from Beth and Shannon was their for the steelwomen to take the lead. The girls continued to press and were unlucky not to get more. This team has an excellent balance of youth and experience and our experienced trio in midfield today were solid and allowed for our youth to be creative and direct. Special mentions to Mackenzie who was unlucky not to get player of the match and to Maddie who has only been with our steelwomen a couple of weeks and has made the step up from U16’s with ease. Fantastic performance from the girls today. This win has put the girls 1 point behind the leaders and put some important space between those below. The automatic promotion push is well and truly on and the steelwomen remain unbeaten this calendar year winning 4 from 4.
