CAMBRIDGE CITY 2 CORBY TOWN 4

STEELMEN WIN ON THE ROAD

GEORGE LOST OUT TO O'BRIEN IN A CHALLENGE FOR POSSESSION.

Corby Town finally gained some tangible reward for their recent improved performances with a 4-2 victory away to in-form Cambridge City. The hosts had won six of their previous seven games but were swept aside by the impressive Steelmen.
Injuries continued to affect team selection as Curtis Hartley was forced to sit out this game having suffered a head injury against Ilkeston. He was replaced by recent signing Ben Garwood who came in and did a useful job at right back.
The Steelmen enjoyed the better of the early exchanges in the wet conditions without seriously testing former Corby goalkeeper Dan George. But in the 24th minute Jordan O'Brien played the ball out to Elliot Sandy on the right and his low centre was turned in by Peter Abimbola from the edge of the six yard box.
Sandy hit a shot on the turn high over the bar but neither goal was really troubled during the remainder of the opening half.
It was inevitable that Cambridge would come out with renewed vigour immediately after the interval and this offensive produced two quick goals. Eight minutes after the restart Ryan Ingrey crossed from the left and Jarid Robson rose unchallenged to head in. Then on the hour mark Mikey Davis fired the ball high into the net after a Robson shot had been blocked on the line.
A few weeks ago the Steelmen would have crumbled in the face of such adversity but on this occasion they quickly regained their previous dominance. It took Corby just two minutes to draw level as George lost out to O'Brien in a challenge for possession and JOB laid the ball off to Connor Furey who fired the ball into the unguarded net. George and O'Brien found themselves in a similar position after 71 minutes and this time the 'keeper fouled JOB who picked himself up to send George the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Corby completed the scoring with the best goal of the game in the 81st minute. Kamy Apindia Gille played a neat ball through to O'Brien - who was involved in all four goals - and George could only push his shot out to the predatory Sandy who netted with ease.
