It has been noticed that there has been an increase in behaviour that is not expected or welcomed at Steel Park.
On Saturday, two supporters were witnessed verbally abusing a member of the oppositions board, these fans were identified and immediately banned from future games at Steel Park. We would again like to apologise to the victim from Darlaston Town of this horrid verbal abuse and those who witnessed the events!
We were also made aware of misogynistic and sexist comments aimed at the visitors physio. This comes on the back of away supporters making the same lewd comments towards our very own physio on Saturday 8th February. With a thriving ladies and girls section, we strongly support the Her Game Too campaign, and comments like those heard over the last month have no place in society never mind at football ground where these women are having to work 10 times harder than male counterparts to be accepted.
Then, on the 15th February, we had an incident where a group or local youths who did not support the hosts or ourselves, spent the whole game abusing the hosts, and then made their way in to the tunnel at full time which led to scenes that we do not want to see. The safety of our players, officials and supporters is our top priority and to have a group of young thugs enter a perceived safe space was a worry to us all.
It seems this season that players and supporters have forgot how to win or lose gracefully, we accept banter will come our way and would never want to stop that. But some of the abusive chants and comments being made by supporters and players alike are crossing a line that is leading in to dangerous territory.
We need your help. We desperately need volunteers to help steward matches, but we also need fans to help police each other. If you hear something that you know is not right, report it. If you see someone with a contraband item, don’t help hide them, point them out. If you see anyone acting in a way you know is not right, tell them to go, or tell a steward who will eject them.
99% of supporters represent their club in the right manner, but the 1% will lead to restrictions that will impact your enjoyment.
Corby Town will continue to look for ways we can eliminate these problems at Steel Park, and we know other clubs will be doing the same. But at a level where we rely so much on volunteers, we need your help. Stand up for the club you support and get these problems out of the ground before you too will be paying the price for their actions!
