A below par first half performance proved costly as Corby Town suffered their second pre-season defeat inside four days. The Steelmen fielded the same starting XI which had held Brackley for an hour while the Basford team included ex-Steelmen James Clifton, Brad Gascoigne and Rev James and Ryan Wilson - the son of former Corby manager Kevin.
The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot after eighteen minutes. A shot by James struck a Corby hand and although the rebound was put into the net referee Mr Callum Peake had already blown for a penalty which confidently converted by former Nottingham Forest first teamer Matt Thornhill.
Basford doubled their advantage through Kane Richards in the 29th minute and five minutes later were awarded another penalty. Alex Howes went down under the challenge of Joe O'Shaugnessy and although there appeared to be minimal contact Mr Peake again pointed to the spot and Thornhill sent the 'keeper the wrong way.
