Corby Town Football Club are sad to announce the passing of our former player manager Gordon Livery at The age of 78. A Yorkshireman from Keighley, goalkeeper Gordon began his senior career as a teenager with Kettering Town in 1965 before signing for Wrexham in 1967. He made 79 Football League appearances for Wrexham despite having a lengthy spell guidelines with a broken leg. In August 1971 He joined Chester and then had a second spell with Kettering before returning to the Football League with Hartlepool. Gordon then had spells as player/manager at Workington and on the coaching staff at Darlington before moving South to join Weymouth as a player. He also appeared for Nuneaton Borough and Scarborough before a "nominal fee" - believed to be £250 - brought him to Corby Town as player/coach in July 1980 when aged 33. His arrival brought an upturn in the Steelmen's fortune which included a sixteen game unbeaten run and an FA Cup4th Qualifying defeat at home to Boston United. He made a total of 48 appearances in 1980/81 and he was appointed player/manager at The start of the 1981/82 season. Following a run of five defeats in six games he handed in his resignation after making 70 appearances. Gordon then played for AP Leamington, was assistant manager at Kidderminster Harriers, had a spell in charge at Stewart's and Lloyds and coached the Northants County youth team. Away from football Gordon played cricket for Geddington and at one time played the trumpet in a Salvation Army band.
