Corby Town vs Holbeach United | Saturday 24th August | The Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round

322 days ago, the Steelmen took to Edgley Park to take on Stockport County in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round! It ended in a 3-0 defeat but with plenty of positives to take against the eventual National League North champions!

Today we are back in the FA Cup, where dreams of Wembley are held by the most optimistic fans, while the realists dream of being in the draw for the 1st Qualifying Round on Monday!

A lot of changes have happened since our last FA Cup match both on and off the pitch. Ashley Robinson and Gary Mulligan have taken over the managers role in a joint capacity, with Elliot Sandy assisting the pair.

On the pitch we have welcomed numerous players who have all been involved at some point over pre-season.

Wednesday saw our first league game of the season, as we welcomed Coleshill Town to Steel Park. The Steelmen picked up their first win of the season thanks to goals from Stephen Diggin and a brace from last seasons top scorer Elliot Sandy. The 3-1 victory was a very fair reflection of how the game played out.

Opposition

We welcome Holbeach United for their first ever visit to Steel Park! The united counties league side have played us twice before at Occupation Road.

Holbeach started the season with a day to forget, falling 5-0 at home to Loughborough University before turning the form around and claiming fine away wins at Boston Town and Anstey Nomads.

They also claimed a 2-0 cup victory at home to Fakenham to set up todays clash.

The tigers drew 2-2 last night with Deeping Rangers, Jonny Lockie with the goals for the hosts!

LAST TIME WE MET

STATS CENTRE

  • This will be our 3rd FA Competition clash with the Tigers, winning 5-0 in the FA Trophy in 1969 before a shock 1-0 defeat in the 4th Qualifying Round in 1982.
  • Like London busses, the Steelmen waited 5 years for an FA Cup victory and then went and won 3 in the same season!
  • Corby Town have played 60 home FA Cup ties since our last home 0-0 draw, which came in 1975 against Boston. In fact, in 110 home ties, the Steelmen have only ever had 2 0-0 draws! That is the same amount of 3-3 draws witnessed at Steel Park in the last 4 years!
