St Neots Town vs Corby Town | Tuesday 28th January| BetVictor Southern Football League Division One Central

Corby Town Battled hard against a well drilled Halesowen side last time out. There was a great but nervy atmosphere in the game- the occasion brought 793 Corby and Halesowen fans through the turnstiles at Steel Park.

Both teams had good chances during the game, and it was Halesowen who struck first after a surging run from Jordan Piggott and some good link-up play with team-mate Cobourne, Piggott finished in the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead. It was just 4 minutes after the opening goal when Corby pulled level when a Jake Duffy Header was knocked on by Clifton and finished by Sandy.

Both sides fought till the final whistle, but they ended the game on level terms after some good goal keeping from Worby and defensive excellence from Evans after a superb goal line clearance for the Yeltz.

Opposition

St Neots Town currently sit 3rd from bottom in the league on 17 points. After playing 22 games in the league, they have only managed to win 5 of there games so far, drawing 2 and losing 15.

The 2019/20 season was a mixed start for the saints, they only got 4 points out of a possible 12 in their first 4 league games,

They did manage to get themselves a spot in the First qualifying round in the FA cup after beating Godmanchester Rovers 3-1 the second time around after drawing the first fixture 1-1. Unfortunately, they saw themselves Knocked out in the first qualifying round replay vs Biggleswade town 2-0 after the first tie was an eventful 2-2 stalemate.

Sadly, the remaining cup competitions didn’t last as long as the saints would have liked, after beating Kempston Rovers 1-0 in the first round of the League Challenge cup they went on to lose 2-1 away to Yaxley in the 2nd round.

The FA Trophy saw them take a long trip to Carlton Town, again they saw another possible cup run go amiss after a 3-1 Loss in the First round.

More recently, they hosted Eynesbury Rovers in the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup, it seemed a thrill cup game with a full time score of 3-3. It ended in a penalty shootout here Eynesbury came out 4-1 winners in the shootout.

Despite their brief cup success, August saw them win only 1 game in the league.

It was a long September and October in the league for St Neots as they didn’t win a single league fixture for the whole 2 months. They were suspect to some big defeats in that period- losing 7-1 to Welwyn Garden City and 6-0 against Thame United.

They started November similar to previous months, losing their first 3 games of the month. However, they managed to beat relegation favourites, Wantage Town, emphatically in a 5-0 win!

They went on to lose the next two fixture 1-0 away to Kidlington and also 2-0 away to the currently flying Halesowen Town.

They did go on to win their following 2 games beating Bedford 2-1 away from home and turning over Kempston Rovers 5-1, clearly wanting revenge after they were knocked out of the League Challenge Cup by Kempston.

There last 4 games saw them pick up only 3 points after losing to Yaxley, Bedworth and AFC Dunstable. Only winning 1 game which came against Coleshill town.
