The Steelmen travelled to last seasons league rivals Alvechurch full of confidence following an unbeaten start to their league campaign and on the back of an 8-1 away win last week at North Leigh!
The hosts, one league above the Steelmen, were unbeaten in 6 games and were themselves very confident of securing a place in Mondays draw for the 3rd Qualifying Round.
It was the Steelmen who struck first, Elliot Sandy putting pressure on keeper Paul Evans, forcing the mistake that led to the ball breaking to JOEL CARTA on the edge of the area, Carta taking a touch before slotting home underneath Evans.
Corby thought they had made it 2 on 22 minutes. Jordon Crawford gave the home defence the run around, being pulled back just outside the area. The referee played advantage and Crawford managed to get his cross in, and via a deflection, the ball fell to Jordan Francis who smashed home. Corbys joy was short lived as referee Oliver Mackey pulled back play for the foul.
Matters were made worse, the hosts broke and Dan George was quick off his line to clear the danger, but in the very next minute, the ball fell to KIERON COOK who smashed home from 18 yards into the bottom corner, getting the Church back on level terms.
It was the Steelmens turn to soak up the pressure, Church trying to play on the last man but the Corby defence held firm, marshaled as ever by Gary Mulligan!
On 40 minutes, the Steelmen struck again, the ball breaking to JOEL CARTA, who broke forward and found the bottom corner from 20 yards to double his tally for the day and give the visitors a one goal half time lead!
Half-Time: Alvechurch 1-2 Corby Town
Having taken 5 minutes of the first half to open the scoring, it took 4 minutes of the second half for JOEL CARTA to complete his Hat-Trick!!! Ben Bradshaws corner found Carta near the edge of the area, the midfielders first time volley going in off the keeper!
3 minutes later and the Steelmen had a 3 goal lead! Again it was from a Bradshaw set piece, this time a free kick played in to the back post, where JAMIE ANTON, ghosted in behind the Church defence to volley home from close range!
That goal killed the tie, Sandy finding himself thwarted infront of goal twice by Evans, while up the other end, Dan George had a couple of saved to make, showing he is capable making saves with both his hands and feet!
The full time whistle went, and the players, manager Steve Kinniburgh and Assistant Ashley Robinson, made their way over to the travelling Steelmen support to show their appreciation for a great vocal backing throughout the game.
The Steelmen will be eager to find out who they will face in the next round when the draw is made on Monday 24th September @ 1pm for the Emirates FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round. The tie is due to take place on Saturday 6th October!
