Corby Town face a Buildbase F.A Trophy replay at Steel Park on Wednesday evening after their Preliminary Round tie at Bridge Road, Histon ended in a goalless stalemate. Josh Carpenter continued in goal for the Steelmen and the versatile Greg Ling dropped back to replace the suspended Gary Mulligan in the centre of defence. John Dean took over from Revarnelle James on the wing and Codan Duncan came into midfield.
Corby created sufficient chances to have won the tie several times over but were unable to convert any of them.
In the opening minutes a Dean cross was cut out by ex-Steelman Pat Bexfield before it could reach Steve Diggin in front of goal. Diggin then turned provider with a deep centre which was met on the volley by Jordon Crawford to force a good save from Sam Roach in the Histon goal. The home 'keeper also did well to keep out a Diggin shot at his near post.
In Corby's next attack a Joe Burgess centre was hit back across goal by Crawford and the outstretched boot of Diggin was only inches away from turning the ball into the net.
Into the second half, Burgess and Charlie Wise both headed too high from Jake Duffy set-pieces, Burgess had one shot deflected over and hit another tamely wide and Roach blocked an effort by the lively Dean.
The Steelmen's best opening fell to Codan Duncan who hit the post after Diggin had taken an attempted back pass away from Roach to set him up. Corby also appealed very optimistically for a goal when Roach caught a looping header from substitute Rev James on the line.
Histon struggled to break down the Corby defence from open play but Carpenter had to be alert to keep out a trio of Buster Harradine free kicks.
The lack of goals means that both teams will go into the draw for the next round before the tie will finally be decided at Corby on Wednesday - the winners being only eight games away from the Final at Wembley in May!
