Full Match Report - Corby Town Ladies V Harpole Ladies

Corby played the in form team Harpole who were on a winning streak of 6 wins and had also beaten us in our last outing.

First half and Harpole were quickly out of the blocks, this unsettled our steelwomen who just couldn’t seem to get their passing game going. Harpole are a quick youthful counter attacking team and they proved this by scoring the first goal. This was what Corby needed as they started to take back control with a fine goal from Courtney to end the half 1-1.

Second half and it started as the first finished Corby with all the ball and controlling the game. Today our back line was solid and thwarted any possibility of a counter attack. A great strike from Tinto just narrowly missing and and shots from Ellie and Kyra but the keeper equal to it. Then the break through a corner for Corby the ball comes to the edge of the box and dispatch high into the net by Kiz. A great strike to put Corby aheadl. Corby kept control and in the dying minutes Harpole showed their skill and resilience first hitting the bar and then with 40’s left on the clock the equaliser. I’m sure Harpole will feel it justified but it certainly felt 2 points dropped for the steelwomen as they chase automatic promotion. With 1st and 3rd also drawing today our steelwomen were a mere 40’s from sitting at the summit. Something to learn from going forward in those games management situations.

Praise for our back line today and in particular Bobbie who played her first competitive game in the defence and was magnificent. Saved the steelwomen on a number of occasions with some excellent last ditch tackles and will be one to watch next season.

Harpole in fairness have arguably been the best team our steelwomen have faced this season and with them still having to play 1st and 3rd will have a big say in the race for promotion.

Well done ladies, excellent game of football and so unlucky at the end. Onwards and upwards as the table remains as you were. It’s still in your hands with 3 games to go.
