U10 Girls Up their Progression

Today our u10’s took on yet another challenge.

Today we played away to ICA Sports Peterborough. Those that have not heard of ICA they have close links and ties with local Academy teams. So our girls today new that we would be in for a tough afternoon.

All credit to the girls they started out very strongly, attacked and pinned ICA in their half for the first 10 mins. ICA grew more confident and got themselves into the match and took the lead. Not long after they scored a second. The girls battled hard in a swirling wind and this took its toll on both teams with both teams struggling against two excellent defences. Corby did had a very strong penalty claim but it didn’t go our way, this may have changed the overall outcome. Corby had a number of attempts on goal in the first half but were very unlucky to be behind at the break.

Second half started very much the same with Corby starting the brighter. Corby then manged to pull one back and you could see the goal gave the girls a lift and they grew in confidence. However we were to be undone again and ICA scored a third.

Credit to the girls they kept ICA to very limited shooting chances, but ICA managed to convert those chances and with some great defending and forward play the final score did not reflect the game itself.

Was not the result we hoped for but the endeavour was there, we had our chances and Corby looked on par if not better at times. Considering the opposition today it was in all a great display from the girls.

Special mention to AmyLeigh who went in goal and not being a natural goalkeeper did pull off one of the best saves we have seen this season but unfortunately injured herself in making the save. Also small injuries to Lillymai and Millie and we hope for a speedy recovery for them all.

Was also great to see our new signing Tilly getting off the mark in her first game up top and she could prove to be a force in an attacking position for the future.

We have to take stock and consider where this team has come from. Today we played a team that has been playing, bonding and training together for over 2 years. Our U10's have been together from August last year so the girls have done themselves, there parents and the club proud today.

Player of the match was Millie B who again marshalled the midfield, protected the Defence and turned us into a great attacking unit when she got on the ball. Millie was the best player on the field today and her link up play with other players and she showed great desire to get back and support when required.

There were a number of stand out performances and was great to see girls playing in other positions today and taking on those different responsibilities. Gives us as a great headache moving forward and gives the team much more flexibility going forward.

Well done girls you do us proud every week.

Final score 3-1 to ICA
