Yesterday (7th March 2020) our U10’s played a friendly against Rushden & Diamonds.
The result was not important in this game and the girls new this from the offset. What was important was to try new things and to cement what we have been practising in training. In particular passing, moving and keeping the ball was our main objectives. Because of this we new that we would give up possession whilst trying new things.
These are the games to try new things in and the girls did not disappoint was some of the best passing I have seen from this team since we first came together. Also not just 1 or 2 passes but at times 4, 5 and 6 passes in order to keep control of the ball.
Rushden did catch us cold and scored within 30 seconds of the kick off, however the girls responded brilliantly their heads never went down and they stuck to our game plan of keeping the ball and passing with purpose. We soon got our reward from an excellent move utilising 5 of our outfield players all passing between them before a top bins shot from our striker. We went into the half all square.
2nd half we again stuck to our game plan and some of our moves where outstanding utilising the wings and with some great 1/2 touch football was a joy to behold at times. We were unfortunately undone another 2 times by Rushden with some very good counter attacking football. Was a game that again could and maybe should have gone our way. However we are learning to play football the right way and the girls didn’t disappoint.
Lillymai got player of the match as some of her touches and her ability to to take on players with her 1 / 2 touch game was excellent. Her team working was excellent and was a constant threat.
Unlucky on the result girls but an excellent performance and you are doing it the right way. Continue this way and we will be unstoppable in the future. Again 2 very proud coaches.
Final score. 3-1 to Rushden & Diamonds
