Pre Season Begins for Girls U11's

Both Corby Town Girls U11's and Corby Town Girls U11 Bobcats started their pre season training today by playing their first game on a hot Sunday Morning.

All safeguarding and Covid measures were in place, with parents socially distancing and signed in for track and trace, balls and goal sanitised and the girls using sanitiser whilst being made fully aware of what they were allowed and not allowed to do.

It was decided to allow the girls some drink breaks in between so the game was split up into 4 quarters. Corby Town Girls U11's were in the fortunate position of having 13 girls today so separated their team with each team playing in 2 quarters.

The U11's have now managed to complete (well sort of) their first season, where as Bobcats were formed towards the later part of 2019 and with lockdown happening in March 2020 have only had 5 months worth of game time. However the U11's understood the task in front of them and never underestimated their opponents in the U11's Bobcats.

The game started lively and Corby Town Girls U11's were on top for most parts of the first quarter, our U11's managed to take an early lead through some persistent defending and break away play. U11's managed to then score another just before the break with an excellent passing move and where the ball was taken to the by-line by Mullan and cut back for Ferris to score her first goal for the club and on her debut. Our U11's continued to press during the first quarter and special mention to the Bobcats Keeper as there were some fantastic saves to deny us a couple more in the first quarter. So after the 1st Quarter Corby Town U11's were ahead 2-0.

2nd quarter started and we saw 6 new outfield players with 2 players in particular Reid and Mitchell who had never played before sitting at the heart of the defence. The U11's struggled with Bobcats in this period and for long periods were under the cosh from Bobcats who definitely had the better quarter. The U11's keeper who had an easier task in the 1st quarter pulled out some excellent saves to deny Bobcats in getting a foothold into the game. Credit to Bobcats they never gave up running and at times had our U11's on the ropes, as the quarter progressed the U11's girls grew onto the game and confidence started show and they managed to see the quarter out without conceding.

3rd Quarter started and the 1st quarter team were back out. Throughout this quarter we saw some excellent interplay between the front 3 of the U11's and with some quicker thinking might have seen the score line stretched. Bobcats though by this point were holding firm and this quarter was a struggle for the U11's to extend their lead and with some excellent saves from both keepers it remained goalless in this quarter.

4th and Final quarter, this saw the 2nd quarter team back out on the pitch and with some changing of position looked a lot more dangerous, Reid moved out to the wing where she continued to push forward and again some excellent interplay with the front 3 we saw a 3rd goal from the U11's which was scored by Pollen. By this time Bobcats where tiring but with some excellent goal keeping from the Bobcats keeper and some outstanding last ditch defending from Mitchell the score remained 3-0 till the final whistle.

Was a great game for the U11's, however you could see clear improvement from both teams.
