Corby Town U11’s v East Goscote

Today our U11’s embarked on there toughest game to date.

Today they played East Goscote with a mixed u11 & u12 team. Straight away the size difference between the sides was telling with many of the Corby Players lucky if they reached the chests of some of the East Goscote players.

It was agreed to play 4 x 15mins, in the first quarter East Goscote got out the blocks quickly and were 3-0 up within the first 5 minutes. It would have been easy for the girls heads to go down but full credit to them they stuck at it. At the break we gave instructions and spoke about them feeling intimidated. Simple answer being if you pass and move it doesn’t matter how big your opponent is. The girls took this on board. And all credit to them took the game to East Goscote. Corby were unlucky on a number of occasions and in the 2nd and 3rd quarters the East Goscote keeper was the busier keeper. However with a breakaway in the 2nd quarter East Goscote got a 4th goal.

The girls never gave up and some of the passing on display at times was amazing to see sometimes simple football is the remedy and the girls showed East Goscote that they may be smaller in stature and that they may be 1 to 2 years younger. But they were just as good.

In the final quarter and with Corby running out of steam East Goscote got that 5th goal

This may have been our heaviest defeat but we take pride in the fact that we had some players out and they played against a primarily u12’s team and matched them for large parts of the game.

We can’t win them all and although we are use to winning, losing is not necessarily a bad thing as today showed us the spirit and fight this team has.

So many other teams would have crumbled but not our u11’s. Well done girls,
