S & L U10 Boys vs Corby Town U11's Girls

This pre season we have really pushed the girls and have deliberately challenged the girls with some tough games, today was no exception. Today the girls played an U10's boys team. With 5 of our 8 girls being of similar age we new this was going to be tough and again with experiments in Midfield, Defence and Attack today was about looking at the right balance for the team.

The first 5 minutes Corby really came out the blocks quickly, unfortunately though with a swift counter attack S&L took an early lead, S & L then started to play some outstanding football, netting together some neat passing moves, S & L did a good job of moving our defence about and at times Corby were outnumbered in the midfield and S & L took full advantage by finishing the half 5 goals without return. Corby did manage to get into some good positions and some good opportunities, however the S & L defence stood tall and strong.

The second half we changed things up a bit and moved a few players about, this gave us a bit better balance, we then did go out and attack which left us vulnerable, however the girls never gave up. In the second period S & L started as they finished the first half and managed to score another 3 goals. This somehow spurred the girls on and we started to see a different Corby, we started to put some great passing moves together and managed to score 2 further goals in quick succession, the girls then started to show great belief and continually went on the attack. This again unfortunately allowed S & L to counter attack and score again another 2 goals.

The biggest fear of todays game was whether the girls would stand off and they didn't they gave everything, they put their foot in, tackled well and passed the ball excellently at times. This is what we are looking to move forward in, there were some outstanding performances and in particular Tillie who had an excellent game and fully deserved player of the match.
