Corby Town U16 travel to face up against Mawsley U15 Jaguars
Pre-season is about finding rhythm, testing systems, and setting the tone for the months ahead. And tomorrow Corby Town U16 Girls make the short trip to Mawsley to take on the U15 Jaguars in what promises to be a fascinating encounter.
Although Mawsley are a year younger, they ply their trade in the highly regarded JPL Warriors league and in their very first season at that level, they more than proved they belong. Organised, competitive, and eager to test themselves against older opposition, this is no ordinary pre-season run-out.
Corby, though, arrive brimming with confidence. Their opening friendly produced an emphatic 8-0 win over Kettering FC Kites. Defensive discipline meant their new goalkeeper Avaani wasn't tested apart from attacking corners for a goal, it was further upfield where Leila S came to life – five goals on the day, and a reminder of just how prolific she can be. If she finds anything like that form again, Mawsley’s backline will have a long afternoon.
It’s the kind of match that gives you more questions than answers. Can Corby build on their early momentum? Can Mawsley’s younger side rise to the challenge of older opponents? What we do know is that games like this bring out character and pre-season or not, both teams will want to make a statement.
On paper, it has all the ingredients. In reality, it might just give us an early glimpse of two sides worth keeping an eye on this season.
