New Season, New Chapter: Corby Ready for the Swans Test
The waiting is over. The tournament football, the pre-season friendlies, the long summer of comings and goings, all of it has been leading to this. Corby Town U16 Girls are ready to write their next chapter as they step into the unforgiving theatre of Bedfordshire Division 1.
It hasn’t been a quiet summer in Corby. Five departures, four arrivals, change always brings both questions and excitement. But the squad looks refreshed, battle-hardened by tournament football, and buoyed by victories over Kettering FC and JPL outfit Mawsley. The groundwork has been laid. Now, the real test begins.
And what a curtain-raiser it is. Newport Pagnell U16 Swans. A side that soared early last season, rattling in 11 goals in their first two fixtures, before finding life in Division 1 a little tougher against the very best. Fourth place in 2024/25 was no small feat – five wins, three draws, ten defeats and as we know only too well, youth football never stands still. New squads, new faces, new dangers.
For Corby, there will be league debuts for goalkeeper Avaani and midfielders in Annika and Faith. Fresh legs, fresh belief. Last season’s leading scorer, Leila, carries the sharpest of instincts into another campaign, while the ever-dependable back line will be desperate to make Avaani’s first league outing as uneventful as possible.
The first game of the season is always a leap into the unknown – full of nerves, full of hope, full of possibility. One thing is certain, this will be no quiet stroll in the park. Corby Town, away to Newport Pagnell. A new journey begins.
