Lionesses Keep Up The Pace For Top Spot

Corby Town FC Girls U12 Lionesses v Mawsley U12 Hornets

Today our girls took on a very good Mawsley Hornets side. Last game between the teams resulted in a draw so the girls new that in order to keep up with the high flying Blisworth it was an important game to try and get the 3 points. In the 8 months this team has been together it’s been an amazing journey already, and the way the team are performing and the way the girls listen and act on the game instructions week on week is why we are seeing the results and progression and them starting to become the team to beat and fear in the league.

The girls started brightly and opened the scoring within the first 5 minutes with an excellent solo effort from Layla M. Soon after they made it 2 - 0 with a great cross and toe poke from Aimee and the team looked to be cruising. Mawsley then sparked into life and got a goal back on the half hour mark which spurred the girls on and they went back on the attack and finished the half 3-1 up with a great goal from Pixie.

After a team talk it was important to ensure the girls remained focused. And as predicted Mawsley started very brightly and with some great counter attacking football really come at Corby. A good shot from the Mawsley player saw the corby keeper get a hand to it and as it was slowing to cross the line unfortunately an own goal in trying to clear the danger. Mawsley really come on strong in this period and the girls started to lose their shape however a fine breakaway goal from Layla M calmed the nerves and then got the Lionesses back on the attack. Again today we saw some great passing plays and the forward line always looked to set each other up and this was optimised in the 55th minute the game with some great passing from the back to front and where Layla M could have gone for the hatrick was unselfish and played the ball across the box perfectly to Pixie to score her second and finish the game with a great 5-2 to the Lionesses. Great win considering the magnitude of the games at the moment if they wish to challenge. Only taking 3 subs each week allows all the girls good game time and aids in those new to the game in their confidence and skills within game situations. The result today shows the great progress all the girls have made. Keep up the hard work and keep doing what your doing Lionesses!!
