This evening our Lionesses took on the best of the best in the county in a friendly Mawsley Jaguars U14’s who have this year moved to play more competitive football and have moved into the JPL for 24/25 season.
Was always going to be a tough game for our Lionesses, however the girls went into the game with smiles on their faces and with the attitude of let’s just give it everything. After Saturday’s disappointing result to Rugby Borough where we should have been more competitive today the girls really showed what they are all about and showed everyone the team we as the management team know they can be and are.
Both teams can be proud of their performances today. We experimented on a new shape and the difference in our play, our defending and our attitude to support each other was fantastic. The play today from both teams was of the highest quality and the game was a fantastic watch for the neutral.
Our Lionesses took the lead inside the first 20 minutes with an excellent through ball from Layla M and for Lily to pounce on run free and take it round the keeper to slot calmly home. Both teams continued to attack with excellent phases of play and with superb defending both teams were cancelling each other out. the half finished 1-0 to our Lionesses.
2nd half Jags started to find their rhythm and were passing the ball around nicely and started to get through a little more than we would have liked however we were keeping them at bay and with a few fantastic saves from our ever dependable Rose we managed to counter attack and some of the passing movements were incisive and cut through Mawsley but again Evie in goal for Mawsley was on hand where needed. Became a game of counter attack and then a good move from Mawsley splitting our defence for a player to run into the space created and to run in across the goal and at the back post a scrappy goal but a goal none the less. Both teams had their chances and the game could have gone either way. But a draw probably the fair result in the end.
Can’t describe how proud we are of our Lionesses today, taking on some of the best talented footballers across the county and matching them. All girls today are owed praise in how they worked together both on and off the ball. The girls chose player of the match and that went to Rose for some of her point blank saves, it was great to see the rose we have depended upon playing at the top of her game.
Well done girls you played magnificent football and showed today what a team you are when you believe in yourselves. So let’s take this positivity into the next match.
Final Score 1-1
