A Bold New Chapter for Football and Community in Corby

A Bold New Chapter for Football and Community in Corby

James McCafferty8 Apr - 14:23

An exciting and ambitious new vision is taking shape for the future of football in Corby,

This vision will bring together players, families, volunteers, and partners to create something truly special for the whole community.

Following months of collaboration with key partners, the local council, and national governing bodies, plans are progressing to deliver a transformative, long-term development that will redefine what football can offer in the town. At the heart of this vision is not only enhanced football provision, but also the introduction of a dedicated SEND school, expanding opportunities for children with additional needs.

This initiative represents far more than an upgrade to facilities — it is a commitment to building a sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment where everyone can thrive.

A Vision for Growth and Inclusion

The proposed development will:
• Deliver significantly improved pitches and facilities for all teams
• Create a clear and supported pathway from youth to adult football
• Drive continued growth in girls’ and ladies’ football
• Introduce inclusive educational provision through a dedicated SEND school

Together, these elements form a powerful blueprint for a stronger, more connected community — one where football plays a central role in participation, development, and wellbeing.

Building for the Future

To bring this vision to life, the club will move toward a unified and transparent structure under a single Community Interest Company (CIC). This approach not only meets national governance standards but is widely recognised as the gold standard for community-focused organisations delivering long-term impact.

A CIC is specifically designed to protect community assets and ensure that all decisions are made in the best interests of the wider community. It provides:

• Clear legal accountability and responsible stewardship
• Full transparency in how resources are managed and allocated
• Robust governance frameworks aligned with national expectations
• Long-term protection of facilities for community benefit

All sections of the club — youth, girls, ladies, and senior teams — will come together under this single structure, enabling:

• Clear and consistent leadership
• Transparent decision-making
• Strong safeguarding and governance standards
• Long-term security of facilities for community use

Importantly, each section will continue to retain its identity, with dedicated budgets and clear oversight to ensure resources remain focused on the teams and players they support.

Extensive work has been undertaken to explore alternative approaches. However, options such as operating through independent sub-accounts or establishing a separate trust do not meet the required governance standards. These models can create fragmented oversight and unclear accountability, which ultimately present unacceptable levels of risk for long-term projects of this nature. A unified CIC structure provides the clarity, stability, and confidence required to successfully deliver this vision.

Supporting a Transformational Community Asset

The inclusion of a SEND school marks a significant milestone in the club’s evolution, extending its impact beyond sport into education and social inclusion. This provision will create meaningful opportunities for children who need additional support, reinforcing the club’s role at the heart of the community.

Delivering this element requires the highest standards of governance, safeguarding, and operational clarity — all of which are central to the new structure being introduced.

Stronger Together

This moment builds on years of dedication and hard work from every section of the club. That foundation has made this opportunity possible.

This is not about taking anything away — it is about strengthening and building upon what already exists.

By coming together as one:

• Players will benefit from improved environments and clearer development pathways
• New opportunities will be created across all areas of the game
• The club will be better positioned for long-term sustainability
• The wider community will gain access to inclusive, high-quality provision

Most importantly, this approach ensures the creation of something that benefits not just individual teams, but the entire community.

A Shared Opportunity for Corby

This is a defining moment for football in Corby — a chance to create something lasting, inclusive, and inspiring for generations to come.

The club remains committed to ensuring this journey is open, transparent, and respectful of everything that has been built to date. Everyone involved is invited to be part of shaping this exciting future.
