STEELMEN START PRE-SEASON WITH A WIN

"diverted in by former Kings Lynn youngster Guimbo-Tsaguim"
Corby Town got their pre-season campaign up and running with a narrow victory in this low key opener against Birstall United on the Steel Park training pitch on Saturday July 2nd. Although there were a number of absentees in the Steelmen's ranks there were first appearances for Jason Alexander, Michael Jacklin, Curtis Burrows, Matthew Slinn, Tristan Thompson-Matthews and Danny Gordon.
Early on the lively Thompson-Matthews hit a low shot narrowly wide and another newcomer, Florian Guimbo-Tsagium, had an effort blocked by the legs of the Birstall goalkeeper who performed impressively throughout the game.
The visitors went ahead early in the second half when a low shot evaded the grasp of number two goalkeeper Nemanja Grubor. But Corby did just enough to gain the victory.
The Steelmen equalised when Curtis Burrows centred from the right and Matty Slinn showed the predatory instinct of his dad Kevin to slot the ball in from close range. This was swiftly followed by the winner. Danny Gordon saw his header cleared off the line and Michael Jacklin's second effort was diverted in by former Kings Lynn youngster Guimbo-Tsagium.
This was a competitive opening fixture and just what manager Lee Attenborough would have wanted for his first game in charge.
