Corby Town Ladies 1st v Northampton Town Development - County Cup Semi Final Preview

Philip Toon13 Feb - 14:42

Preview of intriguing encounter

Today we preview what will be a fasinating encounter between Corby Town Ladies 1st Team and Northampton Development Ladies in the Semi Final of the Northants County Women's Cup.

Sunday 15th February, 2pm Kickoff
Kettering Sports Park, Thurston Dr, Kettering, NN15 6GL

Our Steelwomen have to date had a magnificent season and are currently fighting on all 4 fronts (League, League Cup, NTFA Cup and County Cup). The Northants County Cup is no doubt the most difficult to obtain with many teams from higher leagues also taking part including, traditional names of Thrapston, Netherton, Brackley, Northampton Development and Wellingborough Town. Our Steelwomen have done incredible to be in the final 4 and with a chance to cause an upset both in the semi final and potentially the final.

It is no secret that our Steelwomen have ambitions and this may be the perfect opposition for them to see how they can progress those ambitions. A team that has a great balance of both youth and experience and have created a blend and style of football that is both exciting and pleasing on the eye. The quarter final with Higham Ladies who themselves are also fighting for the league and league cup were never going to be pushovers and had already taken points from our Steelwomen earlier on in the season. The score line was emphatic, against the meanest defence in the league and that should grow confidence in our Steelwomen that they can possibly mix it with the best and cause an upset.

The opposition (Northampton Development) are certainly on an upwards trajectory and have themselves recently come off a magnificent win at current league leaders Newport Pagnell Ladies. Currently Mid Table in the East Midlands Southern Division 1. A team that also boasts a number of dual signed players to Northampton Town Ladies 1st Team who play National League Division 1 (3 leagues from WSL). With no 1st Team Game this weekend will we see some of these players introduced, only time will tell!!

There has been a lot of traction and hype around our Steelwomen this season and in particular the way that the team is performing both on and off the pitch. We have seen some excellent performances and in particular of our youth players this season. They have really stepped up and continue to stake a claim for those starting positions. Corby Town Ladies has a magnificent pathway throughout the club and looking at some of our U18’s that are now playing week in and week out and those that may have started with little game time have progressed to stake a claim for more game time. This has pushed the whole team forward and developed every player to what we see today. A few annoucements over the next few weeks of more U18's joining our 1st and Reserves squads who have been training regulalry and have already staked their claim to be signed.

A team full of ability, hope and ambition versus a team steaped in tradition, skill and undoubtable ability .

An intriguing contest awaits!!!

Good luck Steelwomen!!
