HALESOWEN TOWN 1-2 CORBY TOWN

On a pleasant afternoon at The Grove, Corby Town put in a polished performance to bring all 3 points back to Steel Park!

It wasn't exactly one way traffic, with Dan George and the defence being on top form to keep the hosts at bay for most of the game.

The first real chance of the game fell to Montel Gibson, his chop inside and curled effort was palmed away from danger by George before Robbie Bunn sent his header over the bar from an Ashley Sammons free kick.

Up the other end Jordon Crawford sent a cross come shot wide of the target before James Bowen flicked a Sam Warburton cross out for a throw with Stephen Diggin lying in wait behind the full back!

Halesowen nearly took the lead on 16 minutes, Diggin heading off the line into the path of Gibson, whose powerful header was cleared off the line by Charlie Wise!

Corby then took the lead on 29 minutes, skipper Jake Duffy running 40 yards from the back before laying the ball wide to Stephen Diggin. His cross was sliced towards the back post into the path of the on rushing JORDON CRAWFORD, who gracefully slotted the ball into the bottom corner!

Minutes later and the scorer almost turned provider! Crawford had the yeltz number 2 in a spin before sending over a perfectly weighted cross to Diggin who sent his header onto the bar from yards out. Luckily for the top goalscorer the linesman's flag spared his blushes!

The Yeltz then got back on level terms on 36 minutes, Luke Yates was afforded far too much time and space to run into before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner to level the game at 1-1.

This was the last meaningful action of the half and both teams headed to the dressing rooms with plenty of questions to be answered.

Halesowen were hoping to improve on a wasteful first half display after the break, the words of Paul Smith must have still been ringing in their ears when disaster struck for the hosts.

Rob Evans went on a rampaging run down the right wing, Sam Warburton got across and infront of his man to see the ball out for a goal kick, but for some reason Evans saw the red mist and booted Warburton off the ball for no reason and received his marching orders!

It was then almost ironic that it was SAM WARBURTON who would have the loudest laugh of the afternoon.

The left back picked the ball up midway in the hosts half, went on a 20 yard run before sending his shot into the far corner despite Brendon Bunn getting a big hand to the ball! The Steelmen were in front again.

Halesowen huffed and puffed but were left frustrated by some excellent defending from Corby, limited to shots from range mainly by Gibson who sent 2 efforts wide from the edge of the area.

John Dean broke for the Steelmen, and was dragged to the floor by Bowen but no penalty was awarded, many fans feeling that this was the most blatant penalty appeal they have witnessed over the last 2 seasons, despite having benefited from numerous penalties over the last 12 months!

Corby were working the clock perfectly. Keeping the ball on the left wing, Ling was playing numerous 1-2's with both Crawford and Warburton, Ling working the ball back to Duffy who found Dean in space. His cross was flashed across the face of the goal and sent wide at the back post by Diggin, who again looked frustrated but had his blushes spared by the linesman's flag!

The last action of the game saw winger Crawford go down injured and George kicked the ball out for him to receive treatment. Halesowen obviously did not agree with that and decided to try and build one last attack rather than sportingly give the ball back to the visitors.

It mattered very little though as Corby played the perfect away game and left the bookies favourites with a 2-1 win!
