Corby Town continued their recent improvement with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against high-flying Shepshed Dynamo at Steel Park on Saturday afternoon, securing a second successive clean sheet and taking their tally to four points from their last two matches.
Following Tuesday night's impressive 2–0 victory over previously unbeaten Mickleover FC, Graham Drury's side faced another difficult test against a Shepshed team sitting third in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division heading into the weekend.
The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening 25–30 minutes, but the Steelmen gradually settled into the contest, growing in confidence as the first half progressed.
Corby emerged stronger after the interval, showing greater attacking intent and creating opportunities as they looked to break the deadlock. Wiktor Gromek replaced Amir Ward on the hour mark, before Fran Obiagwu came on for Ryan Boothe in the 66th minute.
With both sides pushing for a winner, the closing stages became increasingly open. Corby pressed forward in search of a decisive goal, but neither side could find the breakthrough, leaving the points shared at the final whistle.
Drury: "We're Starting to Believe in Ourselves"
Speaking to Chuck Middleton after the match, Steelmen manager Graham Drury praised his players' commitment and the progress being made under his management.
"Four points from the last two games, two clean sheets," said Drury, highlighting the improvement in defensive performances.
The manager was also keen to acknowledge the quality of the opposition, praising Shepshed's organisation, work rate and competitive approach.
Reflecting on the performance, Drury felt his side grew into the contest before producing a much stronger second half.
"We're starting to believe in ourselves a little bit more," he explained, adding that his players were looking fitter and responding positively to the work being put in on the training ground.
Drury reserved particular praise for his defensive unit, describing the back five as "outstanding", while recognising that improvements are still needed in the final third.
Despite Corby's late attacking pressure, the manager acknowledged that the final pass and decision-making had been missing on occasions, preventing the Steelmen from turning their improved performance into another victory.
"I think that's a really big point," he added, describing the draw as another positive step in the right direction.
Squad Strengthening and Supporter Appreciation
Looking ahead, Drury confirmed that the club remains active in its efforts to strengthen the squad, with hopes of bringing in additional players ahead of Tuesday night's fixture.
The manager also thanked the 460 supporters who attended Steel Park, acknowledging their continued backing and the importance of growing the club's connection with the local community.
Drury reiterated his determination to build on recent performances, improve results and give supporters more to celebrate as the season progresses.
Next Up: Nuneaton Town Away
The Steelmen return to action on Tuesday 3 November, travelling to The Oval to face Nuneaton Town in another important Northern Premier League Midlands Division fixture.
Kick-off is at 19:45, with Corby looking to extend their unbeaten run and build on the defensive solidity and growing confidence of their last two performances.
