Colney Heath 1-3 Corby Town

It wasn't the prettiest win, it wasn't the best performance of the season but it is a place in the 2nd qualifying round draw on Monday Lunchtime for Corby Town.

The game started slow with chances at a premium. Skipper Jake Duffy played a superb lobbed pass over to Elliot Sandy but the striker just failed to get on the end of it.

The Steelmen were trying to work the wide areas and on 14 minutes it paid off. Jordon Crawford drilled a ball into the area which squirmed under the foot of the hosts number 4 and into the path of STEPHEN DIGGIN who took a touch before burying into the net to put the visitors 1 up!

The Steelmen seemed to settle and half chances came and went before the hosts equalised with their first meaningful attack on 29 minutes. The right winger was gifted far too much time to send his cross into the box and Devine glanced his header past Dan George to level the score!

The game was being played out in the middle of the pitch, both teams struggling to play on a dry sticky pitch but Corby managed to get the half time lead they deserved!

Sam Warburtons cross was chested down in the area by STEPHEN DIGGIN who then rifled his volley into the top corner to regain the lead for the Steelmen!

Half Time Colney Heath 1-2 Corby Town

Corby came out for the second half with real purpose, Warburton breaking down the wing and picking out Ireland on the edge of the area but his shot was sliced wide!

The visitors should have been level though after 50 minutes. It was a carbon copy of the first goal but from the opposite side, the left winger picking out Devine in an identical position but this time his head was wide of the right hand post!

This woke up the Steelmen, with Westwood finding Ireland with a throw in, Paddy flicked on into the path of Sandy but his header was inches over the bar! John Dean then got the ball out wide, used his pace to get beyond the back line but his effort was saved by the feet of the hosts keeper!

Corby then had a big penalty appeal. The hosts keeper made a mess of of a cross from the left, the ball fell to Sandy but the keeper pulled his legs from under him and then kicked the front man because he didn't agree with his appeals. The hosts number 15 then showed his displeasure by smashing the ball at Elliot before a round of handbags got underway. The officials decided that they didnt really see anything so the best course of action was to award a goal kick.

It wasn't long before it was 3-1, Ling played the ball out wide to JOHN DEAN who ran at and beat his opponent before smashing the ball into the roof of the net for his 2nd in 2 games.

Shortly after, Stephen Diggin found time and space in the area but his effort was headed off the line by the shortest player on the pitch, much to the amusement of all Corby fans and everyone else in the area!

The final act of the match was from John Dean, again sending the full back into a spin but his curled effort from the edge of the area cannoned back off the far post!

Job done for Corby Town who have to wait until 1pm Monday to find out their opponents on Saturday 21st September.
