Steelwomen Claim Big Win Over League Leaders

Today our Steelwomen hosted league leaders Harpole at Steel Park. Harpole are a very good footballing side, and in our last encounter the honours were even.

The message before the game was clear: build on last week’s semi-final performance and continue to show the quality we have.

The first half started brightly for our Steelwomen. We created several chances but just couldn’t quite find the back of the net. Then, with Harpole’s first meaningful attack on the 15 minute mark took the lead.

The setback didn’t deter our Steelwomen. They kept their composure and continued probing for an equaliser. We huffed and puffed for large periods and, in truth, should have been more clinical. Eventually the breakthrough came when Mollie had a shot saved, but Amy reacted quickest to follow up. Despite pushing for a second before the break, the half finished 1–1.

The half-time message was simple: play our football, make the right decisions, make the opposition do the running, and be more clinical.

That’s exactly what we did.

On the 55 minute mark our Steelwomen took the lead when Maddie’s shot squirmed in at the near post. Then, on the 76th minute, our ladies extended the lead with a cracking goal from Mollie. A great strike from distance.

Finally, in the 87th minute, our Steelwomen made it four. Jersey showed excellent tenacity high up the pitch and played Amy through on goal. Amy kept her composure to score her second of the game.

Harpole pushed forward in the closing minutes, but our Steelwomen stood strong to see the game out and secure a well-deserved victory.
